Horizon Series 3: Exploring the Potential of CoreBurst™ for Construction & Demolition Waste Recycling

CoreBurst™ is being explored as a potential new pathway for construction and demolition waste recycling, with a focus on one of the industry’s toughest challenges: separating hardened cement paste from aggregates more cleanly and efficiently.

Unlike conventional crushing methods, which often downgrade recycled concrete aggregates, CoreBurst™ uses pressurized CO₂ to fracture materials from within. Rockburst Technologies is investigating whether this internal tensile fracturing process could help recover higher-quality recycled sand and gravel while also enabling CO₂ mineralization within residual cement paste.

If validated through ongoing experimental programs, this approach could support a more circular cement economy by transforming concrete waste into valuable low-carbon materials and, potentially, a durable carbon storage pathway.

Horizon Series 2: Selective Liberation & The Future of Comminution

In Horizon Series 2, we explore how comminution must move beyond simply making rocks smaller to focus on effectively liberating valuable minerals. Traditional mechanical grinding relies on compressive force, which can lead to an "over-grinding" penalty that pulverizes target minerals into unrecoverable ultra-fines. Discover how Rockburst’s CoreBurst™ process uses thermodynamic fracture to address this challenge, showing strong potential for selective liberation along natural grain boundaries to support higher recovery rates and improve tailings management.

Grinding Rock Wastes 4% of Global Electricity. We're Using Smart Physics to Solve It.

Grinding rock wastes up to 4% of the world's electricity, largely because traditional methods rely on inefficient brute-force compression. Our CoreBurst™ technology represents a new paradigm. We use the smart physics of supercritical CO₂ to break rock from the inside out—exploiting its natural weakness. This process projects 50% energy savings, eliminates steel media, and even sequesters carbon, creating a pathway for a truly sustainable mining future.
